I love this painting. As some of you may know, I lived in Madrid, Spain for 4 years as a child (7-11). I was lucky enough to vacation in castles and monasteries. I learned about cultural acceptance and humility at a young age. I learned that all countries have a beauty and culture of their own. And I also gained a wonderful appreciation for art, theatre, and music.
Every year, at least once, I went to El Prado for a class fieldtrip, girl scouts, or because my mother wanted to go. Las Meninas was always my favorite painting. I could sit and start at it for hours and hours. And in a few weeks, I will be able to stare at it every day.
I have been helping a friend prep his parent’s house for sale. There as been a lot of cleaning and discovering fascinating items. And he gifted me several wonderful things including a canvas-mounted print of Las Meninas. I took it to get framed. I know I spent way too much, but this painting holds so much of my heart.
I am looking where in the Hobbit Hole Las Meninas will reside. I can’t wait to share it with everyone.
Oh, how lovely! This is a wonderful painting and I, too, remember visiting it at the Prado many times. I’m so glad you’ll have it to enjoy.
